This is an article about Juan Gaspar-Garcia, a man with Down syndrome being detained and held in an Immigration facility. He is Guatemalan-born, but moved to the United States to be cared for by his family members once his mother died in Guatemala when he was 14 years old.   ICE officials snatched Mr. Gaspar-Garcia at work on a random raid along with his brother. His sister, and main caregiver, is pleading for his immediate release. She worries and explains that he may not be aware of the situation he is in and may be experiencing a lot of shock and fear. ICE officials have responded to her plea by stating that Juan Gaspar-Garcia is in the country illegally and that the law does not leave out any categories of people. I am horrified to realize that no one is safe from the illegal immigration crusades that are going on. http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/immigration/article209114679.html

Two young, American children’s fates hang in the balance in Indiana as both of their parents are facing deportation. Their mother Erika was brought by her parents to the United States when she was only 5 years old and their father Jesus came illegally as an adolescent in 1988.   Within a week of one another, these parents were detained due to their illegal status. Jesus was taken into custody, while Erika was released and is forced to wear an ankle monitor. This is same type of monitor given to criminals. Before their detainment, Erika and Jesus were musicians and leaders in parishes around their hometown. Their children are unaware of what struggles their parents are facing and continuously wonder about their father’s whereabouts, even though these events will affect their lives forever. Erika has an upcoming meeting with Immigration to decide the fate of her and her family. https://www.theindychannel.com/news/local-news/indianapolis/two-hoosier-children-caught-in-immigration-dil

The stress of preparing to go over seas has a huge strain on most families. But for Juan, his wife, and their two sons, there is added on stress lingering in their minds. Juan’s wife is in the United States illegally and every time he goes to serve, he has to worry about her deportation. She currently has a deportation order out for her so any run in with officials could separate their family for years. While this family sacrifices so much to fight for our country, the country they are fighting for is trying to ruin them. https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2018/03/22/sailor-faces-deployment-and-immigrant-wifes-deportation/

Yet another undeserving immigrant is facing deportation due to the current threat from our hostile government leaders. Mozammel Hoque moved to the United States almost 30 years ago from Bangladesh. Although he has had many immigration hearings throughout the years, he is especially nervous to attend them now with the upfront hatred shown by the government. He is a single father of three girls, two of them in college. Even worse, a car struck his 19-year-old daughter just two days prior. She is a law student, who had even written a letter to the judge just before leaving and getting in the accident. All the Mozammel Hoque can hope for is that ICE takes pity on him and extends his ability to reside in the US. He is a true hard worker and a genuine individual to be able to raise 3 daughters alone and have a successful career. These are not the type of people that should be the focus of the government.   http://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2018/03/28/quee

This article is about a couple that has decided to “self-deport” in this dangerous political climate for immigrants in the United States. Khaled Altarkeet and his wife, Heba Alshbaili are uprooting their family’s lives and are moving back to their home country. This is all due to the unequal treatment of immigrants needing visas to operate their lives in this country. Altarkeet and his bought what is now an increasingly popular cafĂ© near San Jose State about a year ago, but now have been denied a renewal based on bogus claims. Although they have fought the ruling, they cannot control an outcome in their favor. Eventually, they decided to let go of all, sell what they could, donate the rest and go back to their original home country.   Ultimately, Khaled basically stated that he could not and would not stay in a country where he is so unwelcome. Deporting all of these successful immigrant business owners will not be as good of an idea when the over all economy digresses and politician’

This article addresses the questions many illegal residents with children have to consider when living in the United States’ current political climate. They have to decide things such as, “if I’m deported, should I bring my children to a country they’ve never known or should I leave them here destroying my family?” One couple, who have decided to keep their identities hidden in fear, are filing affidavits answering these questions if the event of their deportation ever becomes a reality. They have 4 children, all but one born in the United States. As the political climate has grown more and more unsafe for illegal residents, many families like this one are meeting with lawyers to ensure their children are taken care of with the growing threat of deportation. https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2018/03/18/parents-fearful-deportation-make-plans-for-their-children/Y9BAIHu3B6I0lB8XHyqbTL/story.html

This article exposes yet another sad deportation story that is tearing an American family apart. Buba Jabbi came to the US in 1995 and stayed once his visa expired. With no criminal record and a steady job, he was able to live and work in America as long as he checked in with Immigration services annually. Mr. Jabbi thought he would be attending his usual meeting when he was unexpectedly deported with no reason other than an order given back in 2010. He was forced to leave behind his two daughters under the age of five and his pregnant wife. The country is removing a hard-working American man, who pays his taxes and supports his young, growing family. Do these actions really promote the “American Dream” we hold so dear? https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2018/03/08/wisconsin-father-two-deported-west-africa/409448002/?utm_source=feedblitz&utm_medium=FeedBlitzRss&utm_campaign=usatoday-newstopstories
