This article addresses the questions many illegal residents with children have to consider when living in the United States’ current political climate. They have to decide things such as, “if I’m deported, should I bring my children to a country they’ve never known or should I leave them here destroying my family?” One couple, who have decided to keep their identities hidden in fear, are filing affidavits answering these questions if the event of their deportation ever becomes a reality. They have 4 children, all but one born in the United States. This article tells the story of Juan Quiroz and his family. He is serving in the navy and is preparing for deployment later on in the year. The stress of preparing to go over seas has a huge strain on most families. But for Juan, his wife, and their two sons, there is added on stress lingering in their minds. Juan’s wife is in the United States illegally and every time he goes to serve, he has to worry about her deportation. She currently has a deportation order out for her so any run in with officials could separate their family for years.
